I've been buying gadgets again in the new year sales. This time it was 25 quid for a device that lets me play whatever DVDs I jolly well feel like. I was rather amused that the online publicity said multi region but that nothing on the packaging or the manual said as much. They must be running scared of the lawyers even if the manufacturer is a chinese company I have never heard of. The response of the film and music industries has been far too often commented on for me to feel the need to say very much more. Other than that it sucks. They are entitled to protect their livelihood. Standing in a store in New Zealand surrounded by DVDs that none of the devices in my UK house would play proved a little too irritating. This was a line of defence that these industries could never hold. The result was that all the product evaporated up from the discs onto the internet where anybody could get hold of it. I've found how to play back movies and photos on the card reader and USB as well. I did look sideways at the Blueray players which cost at least 4 times as much. But they have lawyers all over them and buying one of them is going to double my DVD budget. So I shan't be doing that. Soo I'm not stealing films off the internet. Nor am I buying their overprotected overpriced products. Win for me lose for them I think.
