I love this series of worldly-wise retorts to the - apparently - rather yukky idealisn of the IPA's 'commandments', John. So glad to hear the voice of someone who has a real life not one which is a continuous hashtag......Rosie C

Hi John. Think you make some really interesting points here. Shame you couldn't make it to the evening - would've been good to have you there (next time I hope). Not taking anything away from what you've said here but I think it's important to understand that we (and particularly me, as the person who presented the 10 'principles' on the night) all went out of our way to stress that these were not 'commandments' of social media but conversation starters. The point you make about how the impact of these goes well beyond social media to the heart of how business is done is one that came up again and again as part of the conversation at the event. There was discussion around how even the term 'social media' isn't that helpful when what we are talking about goes far beyond 'media'. Rather than the 'yukky idealism' that Rosie talks about, much of the conversation on the night and since has been extremely pragmatic about the big challenges and questions that need to be addressed. I applaud the IPA for not shying away from these kinds of issues and engaging in the conversation in a very open way. My hope is that the momentum created by a very successful event continues (the early signs are good) - it would be great to have you a part of that...

Echoing Neil - these weren't "commandements" rather catalysts for practical and actionable discussion. Feedback from those who attended was that it did fulfill that hope.
Would love to talk about Measurement Camp in more detail. Its something I've been meaning to get involved with for a while now. I'd also like to talk about it in a Campaign feature I am doing if thats ok with you?

Amelia the reason for treating them as commandments was that it wasn't clear to me from the original posting that they were conversation starters they are described there as "10 guiding principles" and I wasn't there for the launch night so couldn't pick up the nuances - besides tablets of stone makes for more controversial copy :-) You would need to get in touch with Will at measurement camp - I just started going there as an apprentice to start at the bottom and relearn my chops!
