The debrief summit Sept 29th
Just to tip you off about a day event I have been writing with Mike Imms and Audrey Niven. Entitled the debrief summit it is aimed predominantly at researchers who have to spend on average 90 minutes explaining what they have been doing with the client's money. There are a host of issues about debriefs - the use of powerpoint as slides and as a report, the use of powerpoint at all, the tendency for the debrief to become an exercise is showcasing the learnings from the fieldwork and an equal tendency to ignore the point of the exercise which is to support effective marketing decision making. So we propose to wade into unpack the can of worms represented by the debrief. Mike and Audrey's paper on the topic is on the shortlist as the best presented paper at this year's MRS conference. We want to help you address what a debrief is for. But there will be a host of tips for how to use Powerpoint, how not to use Powerpoint at all, how to dodge bullets (of which there seem to be so many) and how to take control of the debrief process. It will be happening at the IPA offices on Sept 29th Mail me if you want a flyer.
